There is no such thing as free birth records.  The sites that offer them are either getting you to sign up for expanded services or there are charges down the line.

Birth records may be obtained for any number of reasons, and they are vital for receiving other documents, such as a driver license or a passport.   Some employers ask for birth records when applying for a job, and birth records are a great resource when performing genealogy searches.  This can be very helpful if you are trying to find a person.

So, regardless of why or where your birth records are files, in almost every case you will have to pay for the certified copy of this legal document.  You should be able to obtain this record from the appropriate State or County agency which keeps this data.  While this may be the easiest, especially if you reside in that County or State, obtaining this information online is typically easier and more convenient.

Many times, the vital records office of a state or local government is overburdened with a high number of requests for vital records.  As a result, it may take some time to receive an original, raised seal copy of your birth record.  The good news is that the fee for this record is not great and you can pay and obtain this record over the internet, so both the cost and convenience make it worth it.

Getting an official or raised seal version of a birth certificate costs money because it would be an overused service if States provided unlimited FREE access to this data. Therefore, a company that says they can provide a free copy of your birth record is misrepresenting the truth.  Again, this is typically a come-on to get you to sign up for a series of services that they know you will never probably even request.   Nonetheless, not all people finder sites are dishonest.

There are, however, many reputable websites that offer credible and honest services for a small fee.   Quite often, in addition, these are the kinds of service4 sites that can locate records at State and County vital record agencies that you might not be able to locate even if you went there in person.

These websites facilitate process of performing genealogy searches and allow you to search for the birth records of loved ones from the comfort of your home.  The really good sites can offer you a range of search services so that you can gain access to this information, for example, without paying the cost of an official, sealed document.

Best of all, these websites allow you to obtain all of the information you need in one comprehensive location. They can even provide you with links to other genealogy websites to retrieve all of the information necessary to complete a thorough, comprehensive search or address search.
