Illegally tampering with a the odometer on a car to make it look as if it has a lower number of miles is what is referred to as clocking. This all means that people are being fooled into purchasing cars that have received a lot more use than their odometer would suggest.
The number of complaints that the OFT received last year alone from used car buyers was a shocking 72,000. This number is scandalous and is causing huge concern when it is compared to the total number of used car sales in the country as the percentage is quite high. This is very bad news for those involved in the industry because it is all leading to a breakdown in trust between sellers and buyers. The whole industry is being punished by the few who are partaking in these illegal methods to try to sell cars even though most sellers would never even dream of doing this.
