Handling Your Baggage – I Don’t Mean The Kind That You Take While Traveling!

My friend Susan, a lovely, wise and successful professional single, recently announced that her tumultuous six month relationship was over.

“He’s got an excessive amount of baggage and I don’t know how to handle it”, she explained over a small decaf latte at our weekly hangout session. So just how much baggage is too much?

Kathryn Bigelow, behavioral scientist and director of the Burnett Behavioral Science Unit at Sydney University in Sydney, Australia claims, “Baggage is merely a name for our collective past encounters. What we do with our history and how we manage it can be a clear indication of how we will cope with existing and future experiences.”

Susan’s difficulty was in attempting to deal with her companion’s obvious inability to let go of past relationships. According to her, this man wanted to stay pals with each woman he had ever gone out with. At least twice each and every week he would arrange to meet up with at least one of his ex’s for a coffee, or whatever. For Susan, her problem was how to get his ex’s to exit – forever.

According to double your dating by david deangelo, here is a list of methods to put the baggage down and get on with life:

*Take a good hard look at what you hope for from a relationship and a partner. Then list the complete essentials. The rest is baggage that needs to be discarded.

*From the list of essentials, try to picture what it might be like to go without one of your “must-haves” for one day. How would you really feel? Then attempt to envision letting go for longer. The less demanding we’re of ourselves and others, the much less baggage we build up.

*Take a good hard look at who you are. Do a truthful appraisal of your good and bad points and choose what you would like to change. Then picture what it would be like if you could possibly rid yourself of that trait for a day.

Then try to picture just how much more space you would have inside your life if you could rid yourself of one of your negative qualities for good.

*Be your own best friend and do not beat yourself up about things that occurred in the past. The past is in the past, so there’s no point in worrying about things you can’t change.

*Let go of the anger, resentment or remorse that you might be holding on to. You will be amazed at how much lighter you’ll feel!

Everyone knows how cumbersome it is traveling with excess baggage, as well as the costs it can incur, so the object would be to travel through life with just the proper amount of baggage to travel well, and happily.
