Is Getting Wisdom Teeth Pulled a Smart Move?

There’s always been a lot of buzz over wisdom teeth removal. For a lot of people, this may be a very necessary step to take. Others wonder though if every other individual who experiences third molar growth needs to consider extraction. Dentist Melbourne experts don’t have a single solid answer.

It may be obvious in some patients when extraction is a definite need. Wisdom teeth could really cause serious or painful problems. The least bothersome condition could be misalignment. Molars could erupt out of line. They may eventually push other teeth and cause more serious misalignment. This can become both uncomfortable and unsightly especially when speaking or eating.

Misalignment is not the most pressing reason to have wisdom teeth removed. The molars can also become impacted. This means they may not fully erupt from the gums or they may only partially come out. This condition in addition to misalignment and the position of the molars themselves can lead to far more serious complications. Bacteria could breed and lead to the development of cavities. Infections as well as fluid filled cysts might also develop.

Wisdom teeth don’t instantly cause symptoms to appear. Some people can have non-disruptive teeth that may only develop issues after a very long time. There are also people who are lucky enough not to experience problems at all. This can make anyone wonder if having wisdom teeth pulled is indeed a must. Some don’t think the procedure is an absolute necessity simply because the teeth aren’t causing any pain or other issues.

Some dentists will indeed keep away from your molars. There are also some people though who think that harmless wisdom teeth still need to be extracted. This is based on the idea that the molars are highly likely to cause issues in the future. If patients wait too long, age could make removal very difficult. While patients are still young, some dentists suggest immediate extraction.

As a whole, you don’t really need to worry much about the process of removal. Do remember though that getting wisdom teeth pulled can carry serious risks. One common situation is severe misalignment which can make extraction too much of a chore for dentists. The difficulty of the process can injure surrounding areas. This damage can then lead to more pain sensations that can carry over to the head, jaw area and other parts of the face.

Knowing what you know now, should you or shouldn’t you go for extraction? Your dentist is the best person to ask about this. As long as you are sure that your dentist is highly qualified and experienced, there is no reason to believe that his assessment could be flawed. There is however, no rule against asking for second or even third opinions. You may want to check what other experts think of your oral condition.

You may or may not need to consider wisdom teeth removal. You’ll only know for certain if you have it evaluated. One thing is for sure though, even if your molars seem to be okay, you should pay attention to them. You might just be one of the many who could already be on the verge of experiencing complications.
