Items That Every New Puppy Will Need

It’s a dog’s life, as they say, and there aren’t many places more often frequented by a dog than its bed, so if you’re planning on getting a new puppy you’ll need to make sure you invest in a good bed for him. Don’t forget that your puppy will soon grow, and the bed will need to be big enough to accommodate his growing frame. Make sure he has all the comfort he needs and don’t be tempted to buy a cheap bed – the dog won’t be happy!

Other than sleeping, dogs love to go for walks. A good quality lead (both retractable and the traditional types are available) will ensure that walk time is fun and enjoyable. A good quality dog collar will be required to attach the lead to the dog, and you should buy an identity tag with the dog’s name, your name, address and telephone number in case he gets lost. These items don’t cost much, so it’s well worth investing in them.

Like small children, puppies tend to be a little messy. You’ll need to make sure you’re properly prepared in terms of hygiene and fortunately there are a number of products available to you. You’ll need an indoor litter tray in the early days as well as buying some bio degradable bags to pick up mess with. There are a number of different types of odor removal sprays and stain removers available on the market too, which may be worth a look.

As a new dog owner, you’re likely to want to train your puppy. Don’t leave it too late – after all, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! There are a range of products available to help you train your dog, from the critically-acclaimed clicker training kits (trust me, they work!) to agility training kits, muzzles, toilet training products and training prods. Ultrasonic training aids are also available for the more technologically advanced among you.

You need to make sure your dog gets all the attention it needs, and there’s no better way to give a dog attention than to play with it. With so many different types of dog toys available, you really are spoilt for choice. There are balls, pulls, frisbees and ropes, plus many more besides. You should play with your dog regularly to make sure his mind remains stimulated and healthy, not to mention happy! A happy dog really is a joy to behold.
