Spa Cap Covers – What You Need To Know?

A major way to save the environment is not generating waste that will end up clogging the landfills even more.  A big part in the waste material build up in the USA is contributed by business establishments and that includes is spa companies.  There are 10 million spa owners in the USA and each of them uses a typical rigid foam spa cover on their hot tub.

If each foam cover is 2 inches thick and every spa is 8×8 feet, it means that each spa cover contained about 10.666 cubic feet of foam per spa cover.  For easy computation, let us round it off to 10.5 cubic feet per cover.  With the 10.5 cubic feet per cover that needs replacement every two years, it would result to 52.5 million cubic feet of waste added on the landfills each year.

So if it takes two and a half covers worth of foam to make up one cubic yard, it converts to 4 million cubic yards of waste added to our land fills every two years just in spa covers.  Imagine if there are 11 million cubic yards of stone in the Great Pyramid at Giza, we are adding enough foam to build a duplicate of it to our landfills just from used spa covers every six years.

Most foam filled spa covers being used nowadays are now thicker than two inches.  If all those old foam covers were four inches thick, the above calculations would be double.  If we try to be more conservative and stick with two inches thick, then rip the covers in half and lay those pieces end to end, we could circle the earth at the equator for the used spa covers every two years.  In a few years, we could pave all the parking lots in the entire planet with foam just from saturated foam spa covers from the USA alone.

It doesn’t mean that you have to quit using your spa to save us.  The best solution for this possible negative situation of our planet is to shop for a better spa cover.  There are options available on the internet that you cannot find in your local spa dealer like SpaCap spa covers. SpaCap spa covers do not use foam to insulate.

There two advantages in using this type of spa cover.  First, spa cap did not use rigid foam to insulate therefore it lasts longer.  What always fails in the typical spa cover is the foam which either breaks or gets so saturated.  Once the foam gets so saturated, you cannot lift it. This is the reason why a spa cover that did not use foam would tend to last longer.   Secondly, as SpaCap spa covers do not use rigid foam, it will be a lot friendlier to the environment when time comes that it has to be discarded.  Less trash, less waste, less land fill – that is what going green is all about.
