When a friend invites you for a housewarming party, it’s just proper that you have to give a housewarming gift. Housewarming gifts could be anything from kitchen supplies to decor items. Plates or silverware are common and safe, so you should stick to these if you don’t know the lifestyle of a person. You can give something that the person can use.

It is always recommended to ask the person what he wants as a house warming. This is the best option because you might be giving something they already have. Even if they tell you not to bother, you should still bring something. If you really cannot decide what gift to bring, here are some tips.

Food Baskets
Anything that can be eaten and shared can be a good gift idea. Pack an assortment of fruits inside a basket then wrap with plastic or foil. Be careful about bringing sweets because someone in the home might be with diabetes.

Decor Gifts
Some of the most common gifts to bring to a housewarming are decorative items. Any item that can beautify space is worth giving. Having a lot of choices, bring the decor item that you think will fit the lifestyle of your friend. If the decor is minimalist, bring something that will fit in. Don’t bring something ornate if you’re not sure whether or not the person is into such things.

Craft Gifts
Crafts are quaint and can be given as gifts. Some examples of craft gifts are pot baskets and hand woven table runners. If you can, bring environmentally friendly items. Matching pillow cases also work. Cross stitch designs that have not been framed yet are also very personal and unique.

Charms
Home charms are those things that are said to attract luck and wealth to the home. But make sure the family does not have a belief that prohibits icons from other belief systems inside the home. Wind chimes in nice colors and designs are also welcome.

Gifts That Are Not Appropriate
Now we get to the housewarming gifts that could offend or could be taken as an insult. Don’t bring pets unless the owner explicitly said he wants pets. A pet entails great responsibility and the owner might not be ready for it.
